"You’re probably seeing ads for “back to college” sales everywhere.  For some families, these ads are just another reminder that earning a college degree is becoming less affordable every day.  While many students turn to public colleges and universities to keep costs down, that's still pretty expensive for New Jersey students.  In fact, just this week the Star-Ledger noted that it is more expensive for New Jersey students to attend college in-state than it is for students in 47 other states.

Of course, you can’t place the blame on any individual person for decades of rising higher education costs.  But we should hold our leaders accountable when their actions contribute to the costs of getting a degree.  Over the past four years, Governor Chris Christie’s actions have made it harder for our families to afford a high quality education at one of New Jersey’s public colleges or universities. Countdown for the A. Harry Moore School!?

The A. Harry Moore School in Jersey City serves students with multiple physical, medical, and cognitive disabilities.  It offers over 100 students academic, therapeutic, and social programs tailored to their individual needs. The school has operated for 88 years, but will not open next year if a contract is not signed between Jersey City and New Jersey City University, both of whom have responsibility for the school. Where will the students go? There is literally no place that can provide the full range of services and support that A. Harry Moore does.
